WORDS
Scott Garson
I looked up 'dictionary' in the dictionary. It said, A book containing a selection of words. I looked up 'words.' It said, Units of language, consisting of one or more spoken sounds. I looked up 'sounds.' Vibrations, the dictionary said, transmitted through solid or gas. I asked, “What about liquid?” Molecules moving freely among themselves, the dictionary answered. Moving freely but not pulling apart. “Ah!” I exclaimed. I repeated that. “Ah!” And I thought of how some of the words I loved best seemed to arrive in liquid—like the one the mutt says, again and again, a good way down the road from here, each night as the sun goes down.
