PRISON POEM—19-21 APRIL 1912
A. Minetta Gould
I.
I have painted the cot in my cell.
In the middle of the dirty gray
blankets: a glowing orange.
A single shining light in the room.
The little colorful spot did me good.
II.
Drew the corridor before the cells.
The rubbish in the corners.
The equipment the prisoners use
for cleaning. Fine.
Gave me equilibrium.
III.
I have drawn organic movement.
Primitive chairs & a water pitcher
lightly applied with color.
I also drew my two handkerchiefs
in combination with the chair.
